Beach Week 2005!

The first week of August every year, my entire family goes to a beach house just outside of Myrtle Beach, SC for vacation. Often when I tell people about this, their reaction is "you'd have to pay a whole lot of money to get my family to vacation together for any amount of time!", but this tradition has been going on for over 20 years now and shows little sign of stopping.

As you can imagine, over the years we have developed many traditions. One of these traditions, perhaps the strongest, is the annual Scrabble Championship. This all started because we used to spend many many hours playing games of Scrabble for fun. Eventually, someone decided that in order to make this less fun, we should all compete tooth and nail against each other to determine who, in fact, was the best Scrabble player. It was this way that the Jeffrey Sprintz Memorial Trophy was born:

Who is this mysterious, deceased, Jeffrey Sprintz? He is my father, still living, who decided that he would prefer to enjoy his legacy while still alive. He is hoping to make the trophy a true memorial soon though, with the purchase of his new mororcycle:

Anyway, as you can see, it has been quite a while since I have had my name on the cup:

I am proud to announce that I will be bringing the trophy back to California after it gets engraved, as I was able to triumph over Nana, Lori, Kenny and Wendy this year to bring home the gold.

One new "tradition" at the beach this year was the dissolving of mandatory nightly activities. Sonja was made beach event coordinator and we were required to humiliate ourselves only three nights out of six this year. Sonja decided that we should all show off our best talent one of these nights, and because Megan and I don't seem to actually have any talents, we wrote a lovely song about Beach Week. It is to the tune of "The 12 Days of Christmas" and you can download the lyrics here.

In summary, it was another successful beach week and we are all looking forward to next year! A few photos:
