Trevor & Katie-November 18, 2006

Yesterday was a first for me in my photographic career--attending a wedding as a guest! Yes, that's right. For the first time since I became a photographer, I had absolutely no responsibilities other than to wear something fabulous, have a drink or two, and have a good time! The wedding yesterday was Trevor and Katie. Trevor is Becker's best friend, and as such, he was actually the best man. The real photographers of the day were Aaron Delesie & his wife Jen, and although they were technically the photographers, Aaron was also a groomsman so I second shot for Jen a bit.

Of course, I couldn't resist grabbing a few shots here and there:

Katie was absolutely stunning. I snuck into the getting ready room for a minute or two:

Since I was a guest, I just got a nice little seat for a good view of the ceremony:

Fine, I'll admit it--I have a little crush on the best man:

Check out this amazing Alice in Wonderland cake:

My last shot of the evening--the first dance :)

Hopefully I'll get someone to send me a photo of what I wore yesterday, I'm sure you are all very interested!

Bryan & Chiemi-November 4, 2006

Yesterday I shot Bryan and Chiemi's wedding down in Laguna Beach! Bryan and Chiemi are the kind of people that you just love the minute you meet them. I thought this at their engagement session and it was reconfirmed yesterday by they way their friends and families were just so excited to see these guys get married!

Since this is my last official wedding for awhile, I'm going to post a few extra photos. How can I not, with a wonderful day with awesome people in even better light!

Chiemi was very composed all morning getting ready at the Montage Resort and Spa with her girls:

This is Emma, the flower girl. She was just perfect!

Since we've set the clocks back and the couple had a 4pm ceremony, they decided to see each other beforehand and get a few shots. I think it also relaxed them quite a bit:

The best man, working on his speech. Isn't it great that he chose to do this in nice light?

Chiemi was radiant:

Walking down the aisle to meet Bryan:

They had a simple, Buddhist ceremony which was really cool:

They boogied back down the aisle to some 80's tunes:

Headed to the beach for a few more shots:

Lots of pretty details, including a sky so gorgeous it looked fake!

first dance:

Something all weddings should have--an interpretive dance by the groomsmen:

Classic cake feeding shot:

One last shot of the couple watching their slideshow:

Congratulations guys! Also, for those of you blog-watchers that are sad I have no weddings for awhile, don't worry--I have lots of other things to blog and ideas to talk about, so keep checking back!

Kris & Chad-October 14th

I'm a bad blogger! I've been out of town on a little trip to Vegas for Becker's special birthday trip , but that is no excuse for not getting some images up from Kris & Chad's amazing wedding up until now!

Kris and Chad are basically just too awesome for words. We've been fast friends literally since day 1, and I have been looking forward to their wedding since that same day. Not only was the wedding gorgeous, but Kris and Chad were superstars, and every single one of their friends and family was a blast to work with and to be around.

One very cool thing about the wedding--not a single rose in sight! Stephanie Lairson did a great job coordinating every detail and it was both beautiful and interesting:

the finishing touches:

Partner in crime Sarah helping her into the Melissa Sweet gown:

I've always thought Kris was really pretty, but she looked spectacular on the wedding day:

The wedding was at a great church in Laguna Beach, St. Catherines:

Kris & her dad, the very popular Lou:

There is never a dull moment with Kris & Chad! Even the ceremony had some fun in it:

I love this photo of the adorable flower girl:

This is what happens when the limo has a stocked bar and a long ride back to the hotel!

We still managed to get some great shots of the couple over at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott:

SO many good details!

We can't forget the parents:

Kris & Chad have such great friends--during one of the toasts:

One last shot of the garter--check out Chad's skills!

Congratulations guys! Drinks on me when you get back :)

Erika & Jeremy-October 7, 2006

Erika and Jeremy were married on Saturday in downtown LA in a fashion that suited them perfectly. Jeremy and Erika appreciate the true downtown living experience. Having just moved into an uber-cool loft in a warehouse downtown, they wanted their wedding to reflect their modern, fresh, and hip personalities and style. They nailed it better than I've ever seen anyone nail their own style. Down to the CD they gave out to all the guest, every detail was perfection and the wedding had the exact feel they wanted. There are photos below, but you can get a good idea of the wedding by ***CLICKING HERE*** for a showit slideshow .

Erika and Jeremy are also just unbelievably nice people. They are relaxed, and let's face it, just way to gorgeous to be real! They don't seem to know though, because they are as unaffected as humanly possible.

They are also very very interesting. One of the stories told here and there during the day was about a flight they were on a couple of years ago that depressurized while up in the air. You can ***CLICK HERE*** to read the whole story on Jeremy's blog . Because he had the sense about him to take some photos and blog his experience, he's actually involved in the whole investigation now--the power of the blog!

Anyway, back to the wedding. When I walked in to The Standard in downtown LA, I knew it would be a great day because I saw the gold Jimmy Choo shoes I've been lusting after for awhile:

Erika's flowers, classic but modern:

Erika & her stylist:

Jeremy had some great accessories himself:

Erika with a little help slipping into her beautiful Vera Wang gown:

Jeremy had a little less to do to get ready, so he got to hang out with best man Kyle for a couple of hours first:

Erika had a very long veil--love it!

We walked up the block to get a few shots of the girls:

Stunning:

Jeremy, looking dashing as well. He also has some rad glasses that don't glare at all! He says they are 100% acrylic:

Erika coming down the aisle with her brother, and Jeremy's reaction:

I love this moment right after the ceremony:

We walked around a bit before the reception:

A few great reception details. The place setting:

A relaxing lounge area:

champagne with blueberries--yum!

very cool cake:

the first dance:

The reception was right in front of the library downtown, outside of the Pino Cafe, which is wonderful! And such a great setting too:

These guys were definitely ready to party:

Erika and Jeremy party too, but they always look elegant, swank, and cool:

congratulations guys, and have an incredible honeymoon!

Stephen & Norah-October 5, 2006

Yesterday I shot a wedding for two very special people, Stephen and Norah. Stephen and I met when he posted his spare room on roommates.com a couple of months before I moved to California. I was searching through the listings until I found one that seemed too good to be true. Stephen had photos posted of his amazing house complete with pool table and huge backyard, and shockingly, the price was about a third of what all the other listings showed with way more advantages.

"What's the catch?", I said. "No catch", said Stephen. So I moved in.

Stephen is just the nicest person I have ever met. If I had to describe him in one word, it would be good-hearted. He is always the kindest, most selfless person. He'll drop anything for a friend, and go out of his way in a second if it will help someone else. When I moved out here, my mother was nervous about me sharing a house with a strange man (two, actually!), but it could not have worked out better.

I found out later why Stephen kept the rent so low when he easily could have charged triple the amount. He had a benefactor, a mentor that he met earlier in his life. Coming from a family of 8 brothers and sisters, he knew that if he wanted to go to college that he would have to shoulder most of the financial commitment. This mentor saw his potential and paid Stephen's way through USC with no strings attached except for one--he had to pay it forward and do something for someone else. Stephen did that for me.

When I lived in North Carolina, I was paying $400 per month rent, and that included the utilities! Needless to say, things are a little different here in So. Cal. I would never have been able to make this move without Stephen's help, and both my career and my life have benefitted so much from being out here. I was able to focus on my business last year without worrying about how I was going to make ends meet, and anyone who has ever pinched pennies will tell you, that is an amazing blessing. I was able to do things the right way and build a really solid business foundation here because of this.

Now I am looking for the opportunity to do this for someone else, and I trust that I will know it when I see it! I do actually have one idea, I'll post it on the blog when I decide on it.

Stephen is in his mid-thirties and has never been married before. Often people would ask me why he was single, was he gay, etc. The fact is, he just hadn't met the right person yet, until he met Norah.

Norah compliments Stephen in so many ways. They are both so freely giving, that there is no doubt in my mind that they will have a wonderful, lasting marriage and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of it! A few of my favorite photos:

Bermuda-September 30, 2006

Today I got to shoot a wedding in incredible Bermuda with none other than the fantastic Becker . The couple was great, the location amazing, and we couldn't have asked for a better reason to come down here!

One of the things that I really like about this particular couple is that they don't think that having a destination wedding is any excuse to go more casual--these guys were stylin'. They had all the beautiful details of any wedding back in the states, with a top-notch location as well, the Ariel Sands Hotel .

Some of the bride's details:

Cynthia Rowley shoes:

Monique Lhuillier dress:

Great bouquet:

I really liked the little starfish tags for the guests to find their tables:

The bride's finishing touches:

The colors of the place were so rich:

These sisters were so close, and always having fun:

We can't forget the groom--he looked quite nice himself:

A little detail for him too:

The bride walking out to meet her mom to walk down the aisle:

The water was an incredible color (even though this is Xprocessed):

bridesmaids and bouquets are always good photos:

we took the couple down to the beach for a few quick shots:

this one feels really emotional to me:

check out the table decorations:

one last shot, after a toast:

We'll be shooting some day after shots tomorrow, so stay tuned!

Andrea & Andrew-September 16, 2006

Yesterday I shot a wedding at the Huntington Beach Hyatt for a really fun, laid-back couple, Andrea & Andrew. These guys were so chill and easygoing, I hardly felt like I was working at all! Although this couple lives in Vegas right now, Andrea grew up here and there were tons of their friends from their entire lives at the wedding. With this group, you couldn't even tell who was friends with whom, everyone was like a big family and they all had a great time.

A few shots:

Andrea getting her hair done, while a few bridesmaids look on:

I think this shot of her getting into her dress is so cute:

A quiet moment right before heading down for photos with the girls:

This little flower girl was so gorgeous!

Andrew & the guys trying to figure out the boutinneres:

I love how happy both Andrea & her dad look here:

Probably my favorite shot of the day:

We made a quick trip down tot he beach:

Then went back to party, Vegas-style!

Sharon & Pascal-September 16,2006

Sharon & Pascal were married on Saturday morning at the beautiful St. Regis Hotel in Monarch Beach. The wedding was great, of course, but my favorite part of the day was Sharon telling me about she and Pascal's relationship. They met about 6 years ago in school--Sharon was quiet and shy and Pascal knew he wanted to be with her immediately. So he asked her out--she said no. He asked her out again--she said no. For a whole year, Pascal asked her out every weekend and called her constantly, but Sharon said no. "We have nothing in common", she'd say. They had different cultures, backgrounds, personalities, everything.

Well, Sharon went to China for a visit and Pascal still called here there. She thought that was really something, she was surprised he called her there and brought him home a gift. When she told him she had something for him, he asked her out again and finally she said yes. The rest is history!

Some photos:

This gorgeous bouquet by White Lilac:

I loved Sharon's gold and pink Judith Leiber shoes--and her little dog did too!

Sharon and Pascal getting ready:

Pascal & his dad with the finishing touches:

Jeannie Savage did an incredible job coordinating--it makes sense that her company name is Details Details !

the feathers in the flowers were a funky touch, as were the dangling orchids & crystals:

Sharon & Pascal all ready to go:

The ceremony!

Isn't life great when these bright green Midori Sours are waiting for you at the other end of the aisle?

A few shots of the couple around the hotel:

First dance:

The dancing at this wedding was awesome! There was such a mix of cultures, but I think it was the Lebanese crowd that kept the party rockin'! This blue belt made the rounds and everyone took a turn shaking it:

The father-daughter dance is such a sweet moment:

the cake:

One last shot--the garter:

congratulations sharon & pascal!

Sarah & Lando, September 9, 2006

I know, I've been a bad blogger lately. This time it wasn't my fault, I've had no internet access for a few days while I was in Maryland!

This weekend, I had the wonderful opportunity to come to Annapolis, Maryland for Sarah and Lando's wedding. I have been anticipating this wedding for a very long time, it has been well over a year since these guys booked me, and I feel like I have been a part of their plans the whole time. I think most of their friends feel that way too, because quite a few of them said that Sarah has been sending them links to this blog for months, so Sarah & Lando--it's your turn!

This wedding was everything that I expected it to be and everything that Sarah and Lando are: classy, elegant, whimsical, fun, beautiful and simply fabulous in every way. Because I've gotten to know them quite well, I was really able to see the way they brought their personalities together to create this event.

Sarah had her dress made for her, and the inside has her initials embroidered in blue thread on a patch of silk from the bridesmaids' dresses:

Sarah admiring the earrings Lando commissioned for her as a wedding gift:

I love the feeling of this shot of Sarah getting ready:

Lando helping Sarah's youngest brother with his pocket square, Lando's signature accessory:

(in addition to being an attorney, lando is co-owner of preppy georgetown boutique, Sherman Pickey)

All the men looked quite debonair. The wedding was true black tie, and it was so much fun to see the men in their bowties:

The ceremony was at the Naval Academy chapel, which is beautiful, however they don't really allow photography inside. I got seated as a guest for this one, and shot away, just like the rest of the guests :)

After the ceremony, the bridal party (literally) ran through town to get to the boat docks where Senator Brock's yacht was waiting to take us all to the reception:

We did make a couple of stops along the way:

The Senator was kind enough to pass out some champagne to the new husband and wife:

I think this shot is Lando to a T. He looks dashing, elegant, yet happy as well:

The bride and groom didn't know these balloons would be on board, but we made use of them:

The view of Sarah's parents' house right on the Severn River as we pull up on the boat. It was certainly the perfect place for a party!

Arriving:

Spot Floral did an amazing job with the party setup and coordination. They built these lamps as well as the custom lampshades hanging from the tent roof (you can see them in later photos)

The bride and groom took a turn in their getaway car, a vintage baby blue mercedes:

Sarah likes to say that she has a party, not a reception, and it certainly was:

I love the following photo. The man in the middle is Father Leo O'Donovan, President Emeritus of Georgetown. I first met Father O'Donovan at Georgia & Breck's wedding in Aspen a couple of months ago and liked him immediately. Now that I've seen him in action both performing a ceremony and performing on the dance floor at two weddings, there are two things that really stand out about him. The first is that he is so excellent at what he does. I saw him taking notes at the rehearsal dinner toasts, and he included such beautiful details about the couple to share with the guests during the ceremony. He takes a real interest in the people he works with, and I understand that he has been this way throughout his tenure at Georgetown in particular. He said that while he was there, he often had dinner with a group of students, but he never let them take him out--he went to their apartments or homes and had home cooked meals! The second thing about him is that he is one maniac on the dance floor. He parties like it's 1999 and is always surrounded with the ladies. Here he is in pure form with Sarah and her mother:

A quiet moment for Sarah & Lando:

The cake--it was SO delicious.

One last party shot:

Sarah tossed the bouquet out of the car as it pulled away. It was pitch black and I can't believe I actually caught this--it's a little hard to find the bouquet, so I've helped you out a little bit:

check back later to see why sarah, lando and i were thisclose to getting arrested at our "We Did!" shoot!

Carly & Zachery-August 19, 2006

Yay! I am finally allowed to show you all some of the photos from the absolutely stunning wedding I shot this Saturday, along with Bruce Dorn and Ray Prevost at the Ritz Carlton in Laguna Niguel. Ray also sent me a little sneak peek of his photos and it really is amazing how two photographers covering the same event can see things so differently. Carly and Zach are sure going to have a lot to chooses from--I'm sure Bruce blew us both out of the water!

Part of what made this wedding so fantastic was their choice of vendors--it's tough to beat the triple threat of Sharon Gall doing the coordination, Square Root on the flowers, and Mike Ivey on lighting and throwing a fantastic party. They sure do make my job easy!

A couple of Carly's details--love the shoes, bouquet, and the stunning lace Monique Lhuillier dress:

Zach wasn't quite ready to get dressed yet, but Carly was:

What a stunning bride:

Carly & Zach's first moment together:

Some good ol' backlighting:

And lots of handsome boys!

I love this shot of the Ketubah alone before the signing:

Carly and a little fairy waiting to walk down the aisle--check out the wings Square Root made out of individual petals:

Gotta love a red carpet like this:

The ceremony:

Bruce couldn't resist shooting during the ceremony:

But some people were a little distracted:

A bagpiper led them down the aisle:

right into some gorgeous golden light:

The reception looked awesome. All burgundy and red--and a black dance floor!

first dance:

Hora! Is Carly scared of Zach or the bouncing of the chairs?

One more dancing together:

Carly dancing with Stepdad Bruce--the person shooting in the foreground is Maura, Carly's mom who couldn't resist shooting this moment:

Yum, a creme brulee tower:

Some last words, and the PAR-TAY!

Thanks so much to all of you for letting me be a part of hte day

August 19, 2006-The Ritz Carlton, Laguna Niguel

This weekend I shot the most beautiful wedding for the daughter of Maura Dutra, stepdaughter of Bruce Dorn, an amazing photography duo from Arizona. I also got the pleasure of watching Bruce shoot a bit, and working alongside Ray Prevost --good times!

Unfortunately, I can't post any photos from the wedding just yet (hopefully soon, it was so gorgeous!), but I can post a couple photos of the dream team in action:

Here's Bruce, stalking the couple:

Obviously I didn't shoot these two, but here is Ray, Me, and Bruce looking very cool:

one more, looking even cooler:

Hopefully I will be able to show you the wedding soon!

Alexis & Pat-August 5, 2006

Alexis and Pat's wedding yesterday at the Marbella Country Club in San Juan Capistrano went so perfectly you'd think they rehearsed it for months! The combination of a nice location, a beautiful day, and a 100% drop dead gorgeous couple made the day so much fun to be a part of. Also, thanks so much to Jasmine who came along with Stacey and I to shoot yesterday. There's lots of photos to show from this one so grab a drink and sit back.

The dress, the bride, and the shoes:

lots of help with the dress:

This flower girl was so adorable and so easy to photograph! She takes direction like a professional:

Here is the beautiful bridal party. Would you believe that three of the bridesmaids are named Melissa and FOUR of the groomsmen are named Brian??

Alexis on her way to the photos:

Looking absolutely radiant:

Pat was quite the GQ model himself:

The cake and flowers. I love cakes that have an unusual topper instead of flowers:

Walking down the aisle:

Such a beautiful day for a wedding:

matching cosmos:

Pat and Alexis know how to work it:

What boys? You want more photos of Alexis?

The cake cutting was a little messier than she wanted, but at least Pat gave her a sweet kiss:

As a USC football player, Pat had his own take on tossing the garter:

A Destination Wedding in Maui with Becker

Yes, there actually was a wedding in Maui, not just fun and games! Becker and I shot on Saturday for a really great couple. This wedding was so lovely--there were 50 of the couple's closest family and friends and a gorgeous reception at an amazing hotel, the Fairmont Kea Lani. The bride was stylin' in Vera Wang and her very hot Christian Louboutin shoes:

The ceremony was actually at a church on the island, which was a great idea because everyone stayed cool! There was beautiful stained glass all around the church:

There was also really great natural light during the ceremony:

The bride was absolutely stunning--its no wonder that she also models:

I love the tropical plant in this shot:

Of course we headed down to the beach for a few shots at sunset:

bright fruity drinks--the perfect refreshment for a maui wedding!

thanks to becker for having me along to shoot and congratulations to the couple!

Stefanie & John-July 29, 2006

Stefanie and John were married on Saturday in a really cool theater in LA. It was a nice change of pace from the mostly outdoor weddings I've had lately, the air conditioning was certainly welcomed! The theme of this wedding was "finallly" as Stefanie and John have been dating since high school! They actually had a ton of people from their high school there, which I always think is really amazing--to hold onto friends for so long.

Stefanie was a three shoe bride (she also had three outfits--a wedding gown, a chinese gown for the tea ceremony, and a cocktail gown):

They made the marquis at the theater:

The theater actually used to be a church:

John works it for the camera:

The theater had some really cool lighting that I wanted to capture:

a shot I just like:

stefanie walking up to the stage with her dad:

looks like john had some fans in the audience!

walking back down the aisle-they got a standing ovation:

I love brick walls!

Stefanie did the bouquet toss the way I think it should be done--first! That way the single people all know who eachother are!

a toast with some friends:

I was shooting the cake cutting, but I guess I got a little distracted by the horde of second shooters :)

congratulations and have an amazing time in hawaii!!

Erin & Louis-July 27, 2006

I have shot weddings for many amazing people, but I'll admit, it's always flattering when another photographer asks me to shoot their wedding. Louis and Erin are photographers here in Orange County (check out their blog ), and they asked me to shoot their very intimate wedding last night, along with a "we did" session on the beach! It was such a perfect night for a wedding and beach photos down in Laguna. We couldn't have asked for better light, and I can't picture a sweeter, more in love couple.

Laguna Beach--pretty nice view, huh?

Erin's gorgeous bouquet:

A quick touch up makeup job right before the ceremony:

Louis and Erin already have two sons, this one is Jett, who obviously takes after his parents:

This is Louis with their baby boy, Gavin:

walking down the aisle:

Gavin had a few things to say during the ceremony--Erin looks over to listen:

Louis is so happy to be getting married!

Jett did a wonderful job as the best man and produced the rings at exactly the right moment. Not too many guys get to be the best man for their dad--how lucky!:

rings:

I was shooting some portraits of Erin after the ceremony and Louis wandered into the background but it looks cool anyway:

Louis looks pretty with Erin's bouquet too:

how cute:

we got tons of shots down at the beach, but this is my fave:

I like these a lot too:

congratulations you two! i hope you have a fabulous time in hawaii (even with the kiddos) ;)
