Tip #3-Canon 5D & 85 1.8 lens

I've been getting some calls and emails lately about what camera setup I use, so I figured I'd just go ahead and tell you all (and if you don't care, skip down past this to look at Henry & Lucia's engagement pictures from last night!

I have been shooting Canon cameras the entire time I've been a professional photographer. My first digital was the D30, then I worked my way through the D60, the 10D, the 20D, and now the 5D. I have to say that without a doubt, the 5D is the best camera I have ever used. When I used the 20D (which I did for several years), I thought it was great. My favorite lens was the 70-200IS, then the 50 1.4. When I switched to the 5D a couple months ago, I couldn't believe that I ever lived without it. Same thing for the 85 1.8. I could probably shoot an entire wedding with that one camera and one lens! It is also much much easier to get great color right out of the camera. The 5D files are so rich and gorgeous, better by far than the 20D files. Don't get me wrong--that 20D served me well for a long time and I probably could have continued on with it, but now there's no way I can ever go back.

The second best thing about the 5D (the real best thing is the full frame sensor), is the ability to tweak custom color settings even more than on the 20D. I have several saved settings that I shoot often under certain conditions that are really fun.

Sometimes people ask me why I don't use one of the bigger cameras like the 1D or the Mark II. Basically, they're just too big and heavy and don't do a thing that I don't think I can do with the 5D! I've avoided ever buying one of the bigger Canon series cameras, and as long as they keep on making the smaller guys as well as making improvements on the little things (like low light autofocus), I won't be switching.

Anyway, I am basically in love with this camera as well as the 85 1.8 lens and I would be very sad if they weren't in my life!
