Carrie & Kevin’s Wedding at the Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman
Tue. December 13, 2011 | i do
I just returned home from Carrie & Kevin's wedding at the Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman late last night, and i'm still reeling at how amazing the whole trip was from start to finish. Shooting destination weddings is a perk of my job that I seriously have NO idea how I got so fortunate as to have. And having clients like Carrie and Kevin make something that's already almost too good to be true just that much better.
True story--I have a message in my Facebook inbox from Carrie from 2007 telling me she hoped I'd shoot her wedding someday. She had probably just started dating Kevin around that time, and little did either of us know that four years later she'd be marrying him and I would be shooing it! But now that I know Carrie, that does not surprise me. She is a person who knows what she wants and is steadfast and reliable from start to finish.
Carrie and Kevin didn't have the easiest dating story. They've been flying to see each other almost every weekend for YEARS. I find it incredible that the two of them were so dedicated to one another and at the same time, to their personal goals that they were able to make this work and so beautifully. I would say that these two have one of the most loving, peaceful, and caring relationships I've ever had the honor of witnessing. Their level of respect for one another is really amazing.
Fast forward to a beautiful tropical destination, add in 75 of their closest friends and family, and what you have is simple: PERFECTION.
Now, onto the photos :)
Carrie's bouquet--probably the most beautiful bouquet I've ever seen at a destination wedding:

Carrie, as serene as ever, during her getting ready time:

What girl doesn't need a sparkly silver pair of Jimmy Choo shoes for their wedding day??

Carrie putting on her finishing touches:

A few soft and lovely details:

Carrie treats all of her friends with so much care and love--everyone just adores her! She gave her bridesmaids this beautiful, simple, and sweet bow necklace from Tiffany:

Carrie's slip that was under her lace wedding dress was beautiful enough to be a dress on it's own!

A little help with the lace from her mom and sister:

Putting on those sparkly shoes--yes, I was a little obsessed!

Carrie looks beautiful from pretty much every angle:

Ready to see Kevin for their first look!

Meanwhile back at the boys' room, Katie was shooting some photos of Kevin getting ready:

This is Kevin on the phone with ME--Kevin, you're such a joker! I called the room to start orchestrating the first look, and Kevin pretended I'd accidentally dialed room service!

I saw this light as Carrie and the girls headed down for the first look--sometimes you just have to stop and take a moment to take advantage of that:

Kevin waiting for Carrie to come down the Grand Staircase at the Ritz:

As you can see it's a LONG staircase so I had some time with Kevin as we waited for Carrie:

When she finally made it down, Kevin was thrilled to see her:

Those first few moments after a first look where the couple admires one another are my favorite:

A gorgeous, tropical looking wedding party!

Kevin and the boys--they were such a nice group of guys, and looking so snappy in their Tennessee orange ties :)

One more of Carrie & Kevin:

Then it was time to head over to the ceremony! Although this was a destination beach wedding, it was a bit more formal than many beach weddings. Most of the guests sported heels and dresses, so the couple made sure there were flip flops for the guests to wear during the ceremony on the sand:

The view: not bad for a days' work:

Ok, one more :)

Every detail was just impeccable:

The day could not have been more perfect. There was actually a wedding on the property the day before that had to be moved inside because of storms rolling through. There was none of that for Carrie & Kevin though :)

One of the guests being seated--I just loved something about this photo:

Carrie & her dad getting ready to walk down the aisle:

Here we go!

The light was so lovely:

Carrie really wanted a photo of Kevin looking at her as she came down the aisle--I think she'll be pleased with the huge smile on his face:

i'm sure it's hard for a father to give his daughter away, but knowing she is going to a guy as great as Kevin is enough to make any dad happy!

Ceremony:

I love ceremony reactions:

Pretty:

More ceremony:

Ring! I love the moment the groom has the ring placed on his finger. The bride has been wearing an engagement ring for quite some time at this point, so it's nice when the groom gets to follow suit:

Sand ceremony and first kiss!

A couple of quick portraits under the ceremony arch:

I love when couples do a big group shot of all their guests, especially at smaller weddings. It ensures that you have at least ONE photo of everyone there!

My favorite time of the day--the couple alone together. Although I shoot wedding photos on the beach all the time in California, the light and colors are so much different on the beaches in the Caribbean:

No matter where in the world I am, those moments with the couple right after becoming husband and wife are just so special:

They have fun together:

At this time of day, you can shoot in any direction:

I love these two:

They are so sweet together:

A few more. Why not?!

Walking and laughing:

Two of my faves:

Love this:

Then it was reception time! Every detail was so well thought out:

The ballroom at the Ritz Carlton is GORGEOUS:

Hooray for the bride & groom!

They played the newlywed game--you find out so many things about each other playing this!

Carrie showing Kevin the cupcakes and his grooms cake: A Tennessee Volunteers confection!

Maybe my favorite bouquet catch photo ever--she was determined, I think it surprised some of the other girls! You go Jennifer :)

A garter football-style, and the party began!

It was so so fun--pretty much everyone was on the dance floor the whole time:

Including Carrie & Kevin:

A perfect way to end the night:

One more--Carrie's ring really needs to be shown--an absolutely stunning Harry Winston sparkler:

Carrie & Kevin, words can't express how thankful I am that you chose me to be your wedding photographer! I hope your wedding was all you dreamed, and that these photos remind you of your dream come true.
