Carly & David’s Wedding

Fri. September 9, 2011   |   i do
Carly and David are the kind of couple that inspire you to love.  They met, dated, got engaged, and got married.  Simple.  None of the drama, the years of drawn out back and forths, the swings that sometimes accompany couples on their journey to the altar (not that I'm judging--quite the opposite!).  Just a simple story of a boy and a girl who fell in love and decided to be with one another forever.
Shouldn't life just be sweet like that sometimes?

I didn't meet Carly or David before their wedding.  They came to me through an absolutely wonderful person, Heather, lead coordinator at Amorology.  I knew of Amorology of course, as coordinators and curators of all things stylish, fresh, and adorable!  There was NO way I was going to miss this opportunity, no way!  But since this couple lives out of town and I was a little busy myself, we didn't get to connect in advance.

it didn't matter one bit.  From the second Carly and David emerged newly married from the Newport Beach LDS Temple, they were grinning from ear to ear and ready for photos!  The two of them, their bridal party, and their families made this day just so beautiful it was an absolute pleasure to be there.  Really, they were just beyond wonderful, especially considering I was moving a little slower than usual that day.

I've been a professional photographer now for over ten years.  In that time, I've never once missed or been late to a wedding for any reason.  I've shot with strep throat, with the stomach flu, with tears in my eyes after my parents divorce, and now, pretty shortly after major abdominal surgery. Carly and David's wedding was 15 days after my C-section. I am so glad I did this--now I know that there is really very little that could keep me from being at a wedding I've committed to!

But back to Carly and David!

A couple so sweet that they got the sweetest, most beautiful day:

The flowers were beautiful and soft, with a little velvet ribbon touch on the stem wrap:

Carly chose brooches for the bridesmaids hair--each girl had a different one.  They all each wore this darling bow bracelet also--I'm kind of obsessed with bows so I was really into it :)

Look at the shirts and ties Carly chose for the men!  I LOVED the mix & match prints and the sweet little boutonniere too!

Exiting the temple!  For those who have never photographed an LDS (Mormon) wedding, the day begins for the photographer most of the time when the couple comes out of the temple doors.  The ceremony is sacred and not photographed:

I'm not LDS so I don't know what goes on in there, but I'm sure it's really good, because Carly and David were really really excited and happy!

We walked around the Temple grounds first to shoot some photos there:

It was fun finding different little spots:

This tree makes it look like Fall/Winter.  Ha!  I tricked you.  It's middle of summer, and middle of the day to boot :)

Finding good light is easy when you're shooting Carly and David because it just kind of follows them around:

A few in black and white for flavor:

After the temple we had some time so we headed down to San Juan Capistrano with the bridal party for some fun!

It was SO pretty down there, it was the perfect little stop before the reception:

I thought Carly looked like she belonged on this porch:

Pretty bride!

Well, I guess that having matching stunning smiles is a prerequisite to get into this bridal party :)

More Carly--her dress was SO fun!  It was also a pale pale blush color--LOVE!

David, you're not to be outdone--you were so handsome!

And the guys--hello!  Fab!

Nothing like a nice stroll on a perfect day with a relaxed bridal party:

Two of my faves.  I just love seeing new wedding rings on a grooms hand!

I also love having a bridal party that will tromp through greenery if I say so :)

I loved the color & backdrop:

Carly & her best girls:

One more:

We stopped every few feet to shoot more photos of the couple too:

I like the palm leaves in the foreground:

If I had to pick favorites, it'd be these:

A few little details:

Then it was time to head over to Arroyo Trabuco!

Amorology and Carly came up with TONS of details:

When Carly mentioned that her colors were oatmeal & blush, they went crazy!  These oats at the entrance to the reception became the home for custom silhouettes of all their guests. The two you see are Carly & David:

See?

A fab detail--TONS of different chairs!

A wider shot:

One more:

Close ups of the tablescape:

Fresh oatmeal soap scrubs, a sweet little bloom, and a cloth napkin:

Another angle:

They framed a bunch of different quotes and had them in the cutest frames on the tables:

No detail was left unthought of:

I LOVED the dessert table!  Fresh pies, a lovely little cake, and some blooms:

Yum yum:

Yum:

A little lounge area:

Oat to Joy!  This is what the guests threw as Carly & David exited :)

Carly got a little freshen up before our Arroyo Trabuco wedding photos:

I'm so glad I was able to get a few shots of the getting ready:

We didn't have a ton of time to shoot, but we made the most of it!

Love this:

A little wilderness:

And a little light:

Carly's brooch:

Last one:

And then it was time to party!

First some sweetness:

David and his guys performed "Pretty Woman" to Carly--it was hilarious!

She loved it :)

Then Carly's family performed a song about Carly!

But my favorite moment was when David sang "Only You" a Cappella to Carly:

First dance:

Father daughter dance--gets me every time:

I had NO idea David was such a demon on the dance floor:

My favorite couples are the ones that spend time dancing together--it makes the party so much fun to shoot!

And I didn't have to try hard at all to get shots of them together:

Love the motion:

Showered with oats as they left!

Goodbye!

Carly & David, thank you so much for trusting me with your wedding.  I had so much fun!!
