Alice & Chris's Wedding
Wed. October 31, 2007   i do

Last week, Alice and Chris were married in San Diego at beautiful Balboa Park with a reception following at the Prado. They got married in just the nick of time, because less than a day or two later, the entire area was surrounded by the terrible fires that have basically ravaged the whole So. Cal area. With a little less luck, we would have all been wearing surgical masks to the wedding! That might have actually been apropos though, because pretty much everyone at the wedding is a doctor. Someone at my table commented that if I was going to get sick at any point, this wedding was probably the place to do it, with pretty much every specialty represented! Alice and Chris are such a sweet couple and a pleasure to work with all the way. Two interesting facts about them: 1. Chris and Alice have been dating for just under 10 years now! Sometimes it just takes that long for everything to align the right way, but I'm sure they would both agree that it was worth the long wait. 2. Alice and Chris have the same last name! Isn't that nice that Alice can avoid all that paperwork? In any case, it could not have been a more beautiful day. The sun was shining, everyone looked gorgeous, and it really was a celebration of a relationship, not just a formality. A few favorites from me:

Isn't the architecture cool? You can see the boys hanging out in the back if you look closely:

I LOVED Alice's girls' bouquets:

And you really can't beat orange Calla's:

Married at last!

I noticed this one going through the photos and love it!

They are so sweet together:

We headed over to the Prado after the ceremony. There is all kinds of interesting stuff there:

Love this one:

The room where the reception was held is really cool. Again, great architecture:

Just a great moment

Check out Braedon looking all steely! Don't worry though, he's just pretending! He's actually always smiling at weddings. You can see a few more shots on Braedon's Blog

Nikki, Graham, and Jack
Tue. October 30, 2007   people

The other day, I did a family shoot in Laguna Beach for a great little family. They hold the record for people coming from the farthest to shoot with me, Nikki, Graham and Jack are from Scotland! Okay, so maybe they had a few other things to do in the states, but hopefully our session was a fun piece of their trip. Nikki is actually a photographer herself (check out her site RIGHT HERE, and it's always flattering when a photographer hires you to shoot anything for them. It means that they really know what they are looking for and chose YOU to capture that, which is a really big honor. We walked around and just let Jack explore the area. He's so darn cute that pretty much every spot was a good one! See a few faves below:

Look at that rad hair!

Jack was so photogenic, he had lots of expressions:

My favorite:

I've been wanting to shoot in this area for awhile now:

He'd had a bunch of sweets and was about finished with me:

Thanks for hanging out with me and shooting with me guys, I had a great time!

Maria & Michael's Wedding
Wed. October 24, 2007   i do

Maria and Michael were married about two weeks ago at my new favorite local place to shoot, The Adamson House in Malibu. I really really hope that it is okay and hasn't been damaged in the fires, because it's just a great house with gorgeous light all around the grounds. Maria and Michael are not your typical couple. They aren't ones to do something without making sure to put their stamp and style on it, and their wedding was definitely a reflection of that. From the Greek touches they added to pay tribute to Maria's heritage to the wandering magician entertaining groups of people at the cocktail hour, the wedding was all that they hoped it would be: whimsical, romantic, relaxed, and dreamlike. The whole day was so beautiful it almost had a surreal quality to it. Check out the photos! See why Adamson is so great? Tons of beautiful DETAILS:

Getting ready:

Helping Michael get ready:

I've been playing with textures more and more lately and loving it! I think I'm getting the hang of what to do and what not to do to enhance images, no detract from them, and still keep my style:

Maria and Michael spent time before the wedding together and with their friends & family. Maria wore the most beautiful red Vera Wang gown for this part of the day:

Did I mention the light? Yeah. It was brilliant:

Maria had these teal feathers which I LOVED! Brides, if you're sick of flowers try feathers--they are awesome!

She was radiant:

A scene from the beautiful cocktail hour:

How can you beat this ceremony site?

This detail reminded me of Greece with the crisp blue and white. If anyone out there is getting married in Greece or Europe, please call me because I want to go back!

This was the light right before the ceremony. If I had my way, we would have shot portraits during it and skipped the wedding ceremony :)

But the show must go on. Maria, walking down the aisle:

Kiss!

I love how excited she is and how proud he is:

My favorite by far:

Great reception idea:

Cheers

Dinner was underneath the stars on a beautiful night. Congratulations Michael & Maria!!

Thanks to Braedon for shooting with me!

Monika & Nicholas in NYC
Fri. October 19, 2007   will you

The day after I shot Thea & Nilsson's engagement photos, I headed to a completely different part of the city for a session with Monika and Nicholas. As you'll see, these were two quite different shoots! I absolutely love that I was able to shoot with two cool couples and do shoots in different parts of NYC that reflected each couples' personality and lifestyle. I met up with Monika & Nicholas in the morning and we walked around their neighborhood, which is very cool and funky. We stopped a bunch of places along the way including the coffee shop where they hang out, the shopping areas I'm a big fan of myself, and even a bar where they had their second date! I wanted to portray a different feel to this shoot, so some of the images are processed with some textures--hope you like them! This is also a long post because we went SO many places. I was actually having this shoot filmed for some shootsac promo stuff, since Monika and NIcholas were kind enough to indulge me!

Just goofing around:

Doma is the coffee shop where they hang out:

I think this should be their Christmas card:

I love the colors in this one, and also the suns:

Might be my favorite:

These guys are working on their moves for their wedding in May!

I do love the energy in these two also:

There are so many great scenes and spots to shoot in NYC. There is NOTHING like this in Orange County!

Despite their reputation, New Yorkers are mostly very friendly and willing to let us do whatever we want:

This cab was stopped at a red light. Neither the cabbie or the passenger looked fazed a bit when they did this:

The best part of the shoot was this green wall. It's actually in the Kate Spade store. Can you believe they let us in here??

We made the most of it:

There were two girls walking these dogs, aren't they adorable? We were warned that they were VERY strong:

We did a few more naughty photos:

I love this one as well:

This was taken in the bar where they had their second date. Monika told me that while they were having dinner, some other woman came up to Nicholas and dropped a napkin by his side of the table. She kept asking him what it said, thinking that the woman had slipped him her number. When he finally told her, it said something like "You two are the most adorable couple ever and if you're not already married you should be". She was right! Can't wait for May :)

Thea & Nilsson in NYC!
Wed. October 17, 2007   will you

Well, tomorrow is the big day for SHOOTSAC here in NYC! Come and see us at the Javits Center, I will be there all day tomorrow. I will be very sad if nobody comes, so please do stop by and visit. Besides the big convention, I had another reason for coming to NYC--two engagement sessions! First up was Thea & Nilsson which I shot yesterday. I am particularly looking forward to their wedding because it is in Oklahoma City next year, and that's a place I haven't gotten to shoot a wedding yet! I love that I have a job that makes it possible for me to see and do things in places I wouldn't go otherwise. Yesterday, the three of us decided to shoot in the Times Square and Central Park areas, which were significant to the couple because they live right near there! We walked all over the area shooting different little scenes, and I had such a blast getting to shoot in a new place with so much fun and color and things to see. Here's a few favorites:

I love this one. Nilsson says that traffic does sum up NYC well:

my favorite:

I love the whole feeling of this one:

Fun color! I am so glad Thea and Nilsson were up for pretty much anything and were willing to sit on this grimy spot for this shot:

A quick change and some shooting around the neighborhood:

A nice portrait:

We decided to hit up Central Park for a few:

Occasionally I will ask people if they can do any tricks to see what they will come up with. I can't believe that Thea can do this!!

I love this shot. This Central Park carousel was really creepy and goes much faster than seems normal. I would skip taking the kids here but it did make for some great shots!

Back to Times Square around twilight--I love all the twinkling lights in the background:

Last one! Thanks for an awesome shoot guys, and can't wait till Thea's bridal session in LA!
